A Japa Mala is a traditional meditation necklace made of 108 hand-knotted beads.
There can be spacer beads to keep the count. Here I have chosen a regular spacing every 27 beads with larger sandalwood beads.
Pink is a colour related to the heart chakra and rhodochrosite is said to calm anxiety. I thought it would be a good combination !
How to use your Mala?
Sit on a cushion with your back upright, chin slightly towards your chest to ensure neck length, shoulders away from your ears, lower back pain-free. Hold the mala in your right hand and use your thumb and middle finger to move from one bead to the next.
You don’t have to go all the way though, you may decide to stop after you hit the first or the second spacer bead. You may also opt for a timer – maybe add a couple of minutes once you feel comfortable with your practice.
You can decide to simply count your breaths or to go for a mantra. The mantra can be a simple sound (Om for instance) or a word / affirmation that inspires you (gratitude / I am grateful for my life – love / my heart is open and full of love – etc). Try to ensure you use positive phrasing.
Et voilà! Let me know if you give it a try
